Micky van de Ven Double Halts The Toffees' Unbeaten Streak at Brand New Home Ground

Micky van de Ven found the net on two occasions as Tottenham prolonged their unbeaten run on the road in the Premier League and handed Everton their initial loss at their new home.

Everton were unbeaten in their last five matches at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed Goodison Park behind after 133 years at the conclusion of last season.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman pounced on two occasions from set-pieces in the opening 45 minutes to put their strong form at jeopardy, and they were unable to mount a comeback before the midfielder - set up by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - headed home a final goal to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender thought he had equalized the scores five minutes after the defender's opener, directing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an set-piece.

Beto, meanwhile, failed to convert a handful of chances, while Vicario made a succession of excellent stops to guarantee Tottenham went five matches on the road unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the VAR stepped in, advising the match official to check the goal on the screen and the referee ruled that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory moves Thomas Frank's team up to third in the division, a handful of points off north London rivals and leaders Arsenal.

The Merseyside club remain in 14th position and sit six points ahead of the drop zone.

Spurs breakdown: Van de Ven excels in role at both ends of pitch

Following a uninspiring midweek display in the Champions League against the French side, where they managed a mere attempts on target, the manager chose Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The summer signing was unable to influence the game before being replaced for Richarlison after 60 minutes on the field, but it emerged he wasn't needed in the end.

Defender Van de Ven transformed into an offensive threat to be reckoned with.

Tottenham's opening strike came from a well-worked corner routine, with the midfielder heading the ball back across the six-yard box for an unmarked Van de Ven to head home.

And the captain - filling in as captain in the Argentine's absence - added his next goal in added time as he rose above Jordan Pickford to head home.

The Dutchman was equally outstanding in defensive duties, partnering effectively with his defensive colleague as the duo dealt excellently with the 34 crosses thrown their way by the opposition.

Everton analysis: Everton lacking finishing touch

Everton's new home had been a fortress, but it seems the novelty may have faded slightly and fans flocked to the gates after the midfielder's final goal for Spurs.

The break in the team's winning streak at home won't be a massive worry for David Moyes, but their striker situation will be.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Everton's two established strikers - had netted only a single goal between them before the weekend's match.

And they were failed to add to that poor record on a wet and gloomy night on in Liverpool.

The striker's performance was summed up when he chose to overhead kick a clear chance from close range, even with having space and time to reposition for a more conventional attempt that would have challenged Vicario.

Barry, as well, failed to make an impact after coming on for the starter in the second half.

It was not for a lack of opportunity. The majority of Everton's attacks came through the winger and Ndiaye, who relentlessly whipped threatening balls into the Tottenham penalty area.
