Jennifer Lawrence States Speaking About Donald Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Tearing the Country Apart

Lawrence has expressed that she no longer feels suitable to comment publicly countering the Trump government, worried it could worsen polarizing arguments and further divisions across the United States.

‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Explains Lawrence

During a discussion, the Oscar winner shared, “During the first Trump administration, I felt like I was moving hastily without clear direction. But experience has shown, over multiple voting cycles, Hollywood stars fail to influence whatsoever on voter decisions.”

The actor went on, “What’s the point? I’m just voicing my thoughts on a matter that’s going to worsen tensions that’s ripping the country apart.”

Political Evolution

Lawrence has previously been open about voting for both Republican and Democratic presidential nominees throughout her life. Raised by conservative Republicans in Kentucky, she cast her ballot for the Republican nominee in 2008 prior to switching to the Democratic party and revealing she recognized during the Obama era that voting Republican was opposing her individual liberties as a woman.

Previous Comments

In 2015, she remarked that Trump winning the presidency might signal “a catastrophic event” and endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. More recently, she gave her endorsement to Kamala Harris, “because I think she’s an excellent choice and I trust that she will do whatever she can to defend abortion access.”

Celebrity Views

Lawrence was joined by most of Hollywood in her opposition to the former president as a presidential contender, but the lack of leverage celebrities have over the public choices was highlighted by his election win.

“This upcoming term feels different,” said Lawrence about his administration. “Because he said what he was going to do. We were aware of his actions for four years. He was transparent. And voters made that decision.”

Latest Film

Lawrence is currently promoting Die, My Love, the filmmaker’s drama in which she portrays a young mom who struggles with her emotional state in a remote area. During a interview session for the film in Venice, the star addressed Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s devastating. What’s occurring is nothing short of a humanitarian crisis and it’s terrible.”

Broader Concerns

The actress elaborated by stating that she was disappointed by “the disrespect in the discussions of American politics right now and how that is going to be commonplace to the children right now. It’s going to be normal to them that elected officials deceive.”

She sought to redirect outrage about the conflict to policymakers rather than actors and artists. “Stay focused on who is responsible,” she remarked, in what many took to be a reference to the then-recent pledge endorsed by thousands of arts community members to boycott certain cultural organizations.

Relatable Experiences

Lawrence, who earned critical acclaim at a young age for her role in the acclaimed film, is attracting awards attention for her portrayal in her latest project. Even though Ramsay has rejected the story being seen as one of post-birth struggles and psychological distress, Lawrence said that she connected with elements of her character’s journey after the delivery of her youngest child, shortly after filming concluded.

“It was fear regarding my baby,” she explained, “imagining every potential danger, and then second-guessing everything that I was doing. I was seeing a therapist, but I began using a drug called the prescription and I took it for a short period and it was effective.”

Career Moments

Lawrence also mentioned regarding the liberating necessity of filming without clothes in the movie while she was expecting and couldn’t work out.

“There’s a freedom,” she remarked, of being forced to set aside self-consciousness. “I mean, I do have moments where I’m like, What technically are the differences between me and a prostitute? But it isn’t a major concern.”
