The Football Association of Ireland has given the green light to submit a official proposal to Uefa, demanding the exclusion of Israel from continental team and national tournaments.
This motion, that had been proposed by Dublin club Bohemians, cited claimed violations by the IFA of two important Uefa statutes.
As stated in an announcement from the Irish FA, the resolution was backed by 74 votes, with seven opposed and 2 abstentions.
They plans to officially present this request to the UEFA's decision-making body, asking for the prompt ban of the IFA from Uefa competitions.
During a special assembly of the Football Association of Ireland, an standard motion was put to members. It passed by a majority.
The European body had earlier put on hold plans to exclude Israel at the close of last month, following the announcement of Donald Trump's proposed peace plan for the area.
Although they never officially confirmed contemplating an extraordinary meeting on the issue, plans were believed to be quite advanced.
The FAI move follows similar demands in September from the leaders of both Turkey and Norway's governing bodies for Israel's suspension from international competition.
These appeals were issued after UN specialists asked world and European football bodies to suspend Israel, referencing a UN investigation that claimed Israel of acts of genocide during the Gaza conflict.
Israel has rejected these allegations and labeled the findings as outrageous.
Should Uefa choose to suspend Israel, it would probably create tension with the United States government – co-hosts for the 2026 World Cup – which is firmly against such an action.
Although Uefa has the authority to suspend Israeli teams from European competitions, it might not be able to stop them from taking part in World Cup qualifiers, which is governed by Fifa.
